Behind every project lies a complex process, starting with an initial consultancy and ending with the final assembly. Throughout this process, there are several essential factors, and at Pallars Fustes it is clear that the essentials are technology and the human team.
Two concepts that may initially seem opposed, but that we work together to successfully complete all our projects. The advantages of technology—its precision and accuracy—combined with a human team that is approachable, professional, and expert in its field, are what define us.
A project with a strong technical component
Our latest project on the Costa Brava, in Castelló d’Empúries, involved the replacement of a roof that combined history, acoustics, and technology. A project that has not only been a major construction challenge but also a demonstration of comprehensive engineering.
The reason is that the building—and therefore the roof to be replaced—is located in an iconic scenic space. For this reason, the goal was to merge the Romanesque aesthetics of the building with the highest current technical standards, requiring a carefully planned methodology to achieve it.
The first step was the initial consultancy, which provided us with all the necessary information to develop the first designs and present structural solution proposals to the client, working closely with the architect. At this stage, we also offer a comprehensive description and recommendation of materials, covering types of steel, timber solutions, and panels.
The next step was to choose the option that best suited the project’s needs, and the solution adopted was the replacement of the existing structure with mixed timber and metal trusses, combined with CLT panels for the central skylight. This ensures excellence in the acoustic, thermal, and structural performance of the entire assembly.
Once the design was chosen, it was time to bring it to reality, and the fabrication of the components had to be carried out with millimetric precision. All timber beams, metal parts, and cross-laminated timber panels were machined using fully modern CNC systems, ensuring a perfect millimetric fit on site.
Once the components were fabricated and construction began, the most important factor was process control to ensure precision at every step. At Pallars Fustes, we use advanced BIM and Cadwork programs for comprehensive visualization and coordination with the traditional construction. On-site measurements were carried out using high-precision surveying equipment, maximizing accuracy at every stage.
Assembly at height
The project culminated in a complex assembly that required the use of crawler cranes and specialized lifts, as our team worked at a height of 22 meters. The high professionalism and experience of the assembly team were key to overcoming this challenge safely and efficiently.
An example of a project that demonstrates how we integrate technology, precision, and experience to deliver complete solutions and ensure the success of even the most demanding projects.
